Progressive Metal bands

Since middle 80's, many metal bands have incorporated prog elements. They became part of the sub-genre, usually called prog metal. Some bands like Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation achieved such a great popularity, that the new generations usually associate the denomination "progressive" much more to the prog metal style than to the old school progressive rock style, which also has some contemporary representatives.
